Consultant Hand, Wrist, Elbow and shoulder Surgeon
Professional Background
Mr Feiran Wu is a leading Consultant Hand, Wrist and Upper Limb Surgeon in the UK. He founded the Birmingham Arm Clinic to provide industry leading care for your arm, wrist and hand conditions.
Mr Wu graduated from Cambridge University with honours, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. In addition to a comprehensive orthopaedic education, he received advanced hand and wrist specialisation through the prestigious National Interface Fellowship, where he gained plastic surgery and peripheral nerve expertise. He was a fellow of the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit, working alongside world renowned experts in challenging and complex conditions. After finishing specialist training, he was awarded the highly regarded British Orthopaedic Association reconstruction fellowship to further hone his skills in specialist hospitals around the world.
Specialist Interests
Mr Wu specialises in primary and complex conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. His special interests include advanced keyhole surgery, Dupuytren’s disease, trigger finger management, tennis elbow treatment, and finger arthritis operations. He is one of the few surgeons in the UK that regularly perform keyhole (endoscopic) carpal tunnel release. This new technique results in less pain, quicker return to work and a near-invisible scar. Mr Wu is also an expert in joint replacements for thumb arthritis, and 3D printed custom made implants for wrist fractures.
A key part of his practice involves the management of competitive sports injuries, particularly with racquet sport and climbing related issues. Mr Wu is also a keen cellist and guitarist, which gives him a unique appreciation of the demands of both amateur and professional musicians.
Research and Teaching
To maintain his passion for life-long learning, Mr Feiran Wu has a strong interest in research. He has published over 35 scientific papers in internationally recognised medical textbooks and journals. He is a chief investigator for a National Health Service approved randomised multi-centre trial, investigating the optimum method of treating hand fractures in soldiers and civilians.
As a notable academic, he is on the editorial board of the Journal of Hand Surgery and is regularly invited to teach in international conferences. Mr Wu ensures he is able to offer the latest surgical innovations by being an active contributor to the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and British Elbow and Shoulder Society.
